פטריית היריסיום צומחת בעיקר באסיה, על גבי עצים עתיקים או מתים.

הפטרייה מכונה “האוכל של הטבע של הנוירונים”, בשל יכולתה להעלות את רמת הגורם הנויטרופי NGF – Nerve Growth Factor, במוח ובמערכת העצבים, אשר מגן על נוירונים מפני תהליכים של ניוון, הזדקנות וחבלה.

משמעות שמה העממי של הפטרייה המוכר ביותר – Lion’s mane, הינו רעמת הארי, זאת משום ששערותיה הלבנות של הפטרייה מזכירות רעמת ראש אריה.

במשך מאות שנים באסיה, אנשים אכלו מפטריית היריסיום על מנת לפתח “עצבים מפלדה וזיכרון של אריה”.

ביפן, נזירים בודהיסטים זכרים נהגו לשתות תה מהפטרייה על מנת לשפר את חדות המוח, כמו גם את יכולתם להתמקד במהלך מדיטציה.

שמה היפני של הפטרייה – Yamabushitake, שמשמעותו “פטריית הר הנזירים” (mountain monk mushroom), מתייחס לפלג ‘שוגנדו’ של נזירים מתבודדים הלובשים גלימה זורמת.

משמעות שמה הסיני של הפטרייה – Hóu Tóu Gū, הינו ראש הקוף (monkey head mushroom).

ברפואות הסיניות והיפניות המסורתיות שימשה פטריית היריסיום לחיזוק הטחול, להזנת המעיים, וגם כתרופה נגד סרטן. על פי המסורת, הפטרייה מזינה חמישה איברים פנימיים (כבד, ריאות, טחול, לב וכליות), מקדמת תהליך עיכול תקין, מספקת מרץ וכוח, ומומלצת גם לטיפול בכיבים בקיבה ובתריסריון, כמו גם גסטריטיס כרונית.

אופני השימוש והמינונים המומלצים בספרות:

תמצית נוזלית (טינקטורה): בריכוז של 1:2, 50% אלכוהול, 5-20 מ”ל ליום.

תמצית יבשה: תמצית תקנית בריכוז של 30% פוליסכרידים, 300-5,000 מ”ג ליום.

מרתח: 5-15 גרם ליום.

כחלק מפורמולה: 30-40%.

בטיחות, רעילות, אינטראקציות ותופעות לוואי:

פטריית היריסיום הינה פטרייה בטוחה לשימוש.

בשל הפעילות מעוררת מערכת החיסון שלה (immunostimulant), אין להשתמש בפטרייה למושתלי איברים.

יש להפסיק השימוש בפטרייה חמישה ימים לפני ביצוע פרוצדורה כירורגית וניתן לחזור ליטול ממנה יומיים לאחר ביצוע הפרוצדורה.

לחומר הפעיל בפטרייה Hericenone B נמצאה פעילות נוגדת היצמדות של טסיות, ולכן מומלץ משנה זהירות בצריכת מינון גבוה של הפטרייה בעת נטילת מדללי דם.

מומלצת נקיטת זהירות בזמן שימוש כרוני בתרופות ממשפחת המורפיום (MCR, MIR, MCR-UNO), או עם נרקוטיקה על בסיס מורפיום, כדוגמת אוקסיקודון, אוקסיקונטין, פרקוסט, פרקודן, סירופ אוקסיקוד, מדבקות פנטניל (דורג’זיק, פנטה), הידרומורפון (פלדון), מתדון, בשל הפעילות האנלגסטית (נוגדת כאב) של הרכיב הפעיל בפטרייה Erinacine E.

לא ידועה סכנה בשימוש בזמן הריון (למעט עם קבלת מדללי דם כדוגמת קלקסן).
